The Death of Democracy
Alongside the viciousness of much of German politics in the Weimar years was an incongruous innocence: few people could imagine the worst possibilities. A civilized nation could not possibly vote for Hitler, some had thought. When he became chancellor nonetheless, millions expected his time in office to be short and ineffectual. Germany was a notoriously law-abiding as well as cultured land. How could a German government systematically brutalize its own people?
German Jews were highly assimilated and patriotic. Many refused to leave their homeland, even as things got worse and worse. "I am German and am waiting for the Germans to come back; they-have gone to ground somewhere," Victor Klemperer wrote in his diary-he was the son of a rabbi and a veteran of the First World War who chose to stay, and miraculously survived.
Few Germans in 1933 could imagine Treblinka or Auschwitz, the mass shootings of Babi Yar or the death marches of the last months of the Second World War. It is hard to blame them for not foreseeing the unthinkable. Yet their innocence failed them, and they were catastrophically wrong about their future. We who come later have one advantage over them: we have their example before us.
How can they win?
By getting us to flail over endless individual crimes while missing the big picture.
Everything is connected. Canada, pardoning J6 terrorists, Panama Canal, ICE, Indigenous Americans, Hegseth, LGBTQ+, eating cats, salutes, etc.
All gasoline on smoldering White Nationalism.
Then they force an economic collapse. A nation of starving people with no healthcare and no hope does not resist. It turns to the self-proclaimed, christian-endorsed savior as the only way out.
"I alone can fix it ... with MY well-armed regional nazis and MY prosecution-immune law enforcement."
Here we are on the precipice staring at a tsunami of evil the US has never seen nor contemplated. What do we do?
Do we sit next to Winston, head down, at The Ministry of Truth, or do we ready ourselves as one and fight a battle that only ends with the utter destruction of one side or the other?

The reason we had so many overreaching regulations in our nation is because the church complied. The church is supposed to direct the government. The government is not meant to direct the church. That is not how our Founding Fathers intended it. And I’m tired of this separation of church and state junk, that’s not in the Constitution. It was in a stinking letter and it means nothing like what they say it does.

This threat to democracy has made its way to Congress. My colleague, Representative Lauren Boebert, said quote: 'The church is supposed to direct the government. The government is not supposed to direct the church. I'm tired of this separation of church and state junk.”
That junk being the Constitution and Bill of Rights.
The Bible itself in II Corinthians actually warns against this, Paul warned against this. He warned us against people who would preach of a Christ that differs from the true Christ that we learn about in the Bible. That’s exactly what christian nationalism is doing. I condemn religious extremism everywhere, globally and domestically, and we have to recognize. the threat it poses to out most sacred freedoms and rooted out everywhere.
It’s incumbent especially on us as christians, me as a christian, to be at the forefront of the fight to make sure white nationalism and christian nationalism doesn’t see the light of day.
