KAMAND KOJOURI

They want us to be afraid.
They want us to be afraid of leaving our homes.
They want us to barricade our doors
and hide our children.
Their aim is to make us fear life itself!
They want us to hate.
They want us to hate 'the other'.
They want us to practice aggression
and perfect antagonism.
Their aim is to divide us all!
They want us to be inhuman.
They want us to throw out our kindness.
They want us to bury our love
and burn our hope.
Their aim is to take all our light!
They think their bricked walls
will separate us.
They think their damned bombs
will defeat us.
They are so ignorant they don’t understand
that my soul and your soul are old friends.
They are so ignorant they don’t understand
that when they cut you I bleed.
They are so ignorant they don’t understand
that we will never be afraid,
we will never hate
and we will never be silent
for life is ours!

VIRGINIA WOOLF from Between The Acts

Lucy turned the page, quickly, guiltily, like a child who will be told to go to bed before the end of the chapter.

OSCAR WILDE from The Importance of Being Earnest

I never travel without my diary. One should always have something sensational to read on the train.

HALLDÓR LAXNESS from Independent People

The tyranny of mankind; it was like the obstinate drip of water falling on a stone and hollowing it little by little; and this drip continued, falling obstinately, falling without pause on the souls of the children.

Theme and variations on La veuve Couderc.
Novel by Georges Simenon, film by Pierre Granier-Deferre and starring Simone Signoret and Alain Delon.

JORGE LUIS BORGES - “Limits”

There is a line in Verlaine I shall not recall again,
There is a street close by forbidden to my feet,
There’s a mirror that’s seen me for the very last time,
There is a door that I have locked till the end of the world.
Among the books in my library (I have them before me)
There are some that I shall never open now.
This summer I complete my fiftieth year;
Death is gnawing at me ceaselessly.
