ROBERT G. INGERSOLL
The Liberty of Man, Woman, and Child

When the great ship containing the hopes and aspirations of the world, when the great ship freighted with mankind goes down in the night of death, chaos and disaster, I am willing to go down with the ship. I will not be guilty of the ineffable meanness of paddling away in some orthodox canoe. I will go down with the ship, with those who love me, and with those whom I have loved.

If there is a God who will damn his children forever, I would rather go to hell than to go to heaven and keep the society of such an infamous tyrant.

I make my choice now. I despise that doctrine. It has covered the cheeks of this world with tears. It has polluted the hearts of children, and poisoned the imaginations of men. It has been a constant pain, a perpetual terror to every good man and woman and child. It has filled the good with horror and with fear; but it has had no effect upon the infamous and base. It has wrung the hearts of the tender; it has furrowed the cheeks of the good. This doctrine never should be preached again.

What right have you, sir, Mr. Clergyman, you, minister of the gospel, to stand at the portals of the tomb, at the vestibule of eternity, and fill the future with horror and with fear? I do not believe this doctrine: neither do you. If you did, you could not sleep one moment. Any man who believes it, and has within his breast a decent, throbbing heart, will go insane. A man who believes that doctrine and does not go insane has the heart of a snake and the conscience of a hyena.

There will never be enough children with their brains splattered all over a classroom wall to satisfy the blood lust of Americans.

Christianity at its finest.

LAUREN BOEBERT

The reason we had so many overreaching regulations in our nation is because the church complied. The church is supposed to direct the government. The government is not meant to direct the church. That is not how our Founding Fathers intended it. And I’m tired of this separation of church and state junk, that’s not in the Constitution. It was in a stinking letter and it means nothing like what they say it does.

-

REP. MAXWELL FROST

This threat to democracy has made its way to Congress. My colleague, Representative Lauren Boebert, said quote: 'The church is supposed to direct the government. The government is not supposed to direct the church. I'm tired of this separation of church and state junk.”

That junk being the Constitution and Bill of Rights.

The Bible itself in II Corinthians actually warns against this, Paul warned against this. He warned us against people who would preach of a Christ that differs from the true Christ that we learn about in the Bible. That’s exactly what christian nationalism is doing. I condemn religious extremism everywhere, globally and domestically, and we have to recognize. the threat it poses to out most sacred freedoms and rooted out everywhere.

It’s incumbent especially on us as christians, me as a christian, to be at the forefront of the fight to make sure white nationalism and christian nationalism doesn’t see the light of day.

My Independence Day Message To Gun Nuts Everywhere

I'm tired of hearing about how carrying guns in public is some declaration of our rights. It's just a way to make people more afraid and used to living in their self-made prison.

By Karoli Kuns — July 2, 2014

Independence Day: When we celebrate the nation's independence by shooting projectiles into the air intended to resemble 'bombs bursting in air.' Or something.

Wouldn't it be great to celebrate the nation's independence by actually living in a society that cared about liberty for everyone instead of just white, gun-toting Christian conservatives?

Let's be honest. States that glorify guns as implements of liberty aren't promoting freedom; they're promoting fear. The best we can hope in their vision of liberty is not to be in the line of fire when someone unloads a few rounds into someone else they're pissed at.

How twisted is it to define liberty as having the right to inflict fear, harm and possible death on someone else?

A life free of paranoia and fear feels much more like independence. Living afraid to go to the movies, the mall, or even out to a fast food restaurant feels much more like prison.

The open carry whackos driven by their need to sport their penises guns in public aren't proclaiming liberty. They're claiming their right to intimidate other people and minimize others' rights in favor of their own. Desensitize everyone, and no one will notice when they start using them to bully people of color, women, and other groups they conquer, right?

News flash: It's not liberty to sacrifice 20 children for one insane person's right to carry a weapon of mass death. It's not liberty for college students to be dead because an entitled, bitter student decided to go out in a blaze of glory. That's not liberty and it's sure as hell not freedom.

They want us all to believe we have to have guns to be free. I don't believe that. I never have, and I never will.

This Independence Day, I'm declaring mine. I won't visit states with laws permitting open carry and I won't patronize national businesses that permit it. We don't have to live by their rules, even if they have guns and I don't. But I'm not stopping there. If they want liberty, they can start by being responsible and considerate of others.

They can leave their guns at home, locked up with the key in their pocket. Liberty is choosing to respect other people, not trampling all over them.

You can't.

But I think we better call it what it really is ...

A religious war to obliterate humanity in the name of Jesus whose own words are so abhorrent to them that they want to start a religious war to prevent them being made manifest.

HIV testingand prevention in Tennessee may be more difficult to attain come this spring. Dozens of organizations across the state are bracing for the loss of significant federal funding for HIV prevention after the state declined nearly $9 million in government funds from the CDC. It’s a move that could result in a spike of new infections and be a bellwether for the rest of the nation — especially in red states ...

In Memphis, leaders are particularly concerned about what the funding cuts may mean because of the heightened risk factors in Shelby County. As recently as 2021, the Memphis area ranked third in the country for new HIV infections and first for new AIDS cases. It also had the fourth highest rate of poverty in U.S. cities larger than 500,000 people.

“It just makes no sense,” Diane Duke, executive director of the Friends for Life in Memphis, says. “In one of the poorest states in the nation with great health disparities, huge transmission rates for HIV, why would you give that money back?”

... Across the state in Memphis, Duke’s organization Friends for Life stands to lose more than $1.5 million in funding, which is distributed directly between their testing and treatment offerings, along with PrEP and PEP (post-exposure prophylaxis) access, and indirectly through pharmacy rebates for HIV meds. Even the nonprofit St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, which treats and researches HIV in addition to its cancer efforts, could lose funding.

The more children with guns in Missouri today, the less people in Missouri tomorrow.
